Barbara Drake Boehm

Barbara Drake Boehm is The Paul and Jill Ruddock Senior Curator for the Met Cloisters at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is co-curator, with Alexandra Suda of the Art Gallery of Ontario, and Frits Scholten of the Rijksmuseum of the forthcoming exhibition on miniature boxwood carvings, Miraculous Miniatures. In addition, she is co-curator with Met colleague Melanie Holcomb of Every People Under Heaven: Jerusalem 1000-1400, opening in September 2016. Dr. Boehm’s past exhibitions include Enamels of Limoges, to which Pete Dandridge was an important contributor, Prayer Book for a Queen: The Hours of Jeanne d’Évreux, and Prague, The Crown of Bohemia, on which she first worked with Sasha Suda. More recently, Dr. Boehm inaugurated a program of focus exhibitions at The Cloisters with The Game of Kings: Medieval Ivory Chessmen from the Isle of Lewis (2011) and Search for the Unicorn (2013), which celebrated the 75th anniversary of The Cloisters. Ms. Boehm has published extensively on subjects relating to her exhibition projects and on the Met’s permanent collection. Between 2012 and 2015, she served as Director of Curatorial Studies, a joint program of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. Barbara Drake Boehm holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and a B.A. from Wellesley College. Dr. Boehm was elected an Honored foreign member of the Société nationale des antiquaires de France in 2003, the only American curator of this generation to have received this recognition.
