Richard Newman is Head of Scientific Research at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he has worked as Research Scientist since 1986. He holds a B.A. in Art History, M.A. in Geology and completed a three-year apprenticeship in conservation science at the Center for Conservation and Technical Studies at Harvard University’s Fogg Art Museum in 1980. Richard was co-recipient of the 1991 Award for Distinction in Scholarship and Conservation from the College Art Association and National Institute for Conservation for the book Examining Velazquez. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Infrared and Raman Users Group (IRUG) and is currently a visiting instructor in the Art, Art History and Film Department at Boston College.
