Gianfranco Pocobene is the Principal of Gianfranco Pocobene Studio specializing in the treatment of easel paintings and murals. He is also the Chief Paintings and Research Conservator at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. From 2004 - 2018 he was the museum's John L. and Susan K. Gardner Chief Conservator. He received his Master of Arts in Conservation from Queen’s University and also holds a Certificate of Advanced Training in Paintings Conservation from the Harvard Art Museums. His thirty-five years of experience working in the U.S. and Canada includes fifteen years at the Straus Center for Conservation, Harvard Art Museums. While there, he oversaw the restoration of significant mural cycles at the Boston Public Library by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Edwin Austin Abbey and John Singer Sargent. From 2004-05 he directed the restoration of the John La Farge murals in the central tower of Trinity Church in the City of Boston.
