Paolo Pastorello, born in Naples in 1953, received the doctor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and Philosophy from the University La Sapienza, Rome and the bachelor’s degree as a Specialist Conservator of Cultural Heritage from the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro, Rome. Since 1983 he is the head of STUDIO CRC, one of the most appreciated companies in Conservation and Restoration of works of art in Italy and abroad. He also acts as a teacher and consultant for national and international institutes (for example:
Istituto Superiore per il Restauro e la Conservazione - ISCR and
International centre for the study of preservation and restoration of cultural property - ICCROM - Rome;
The Getty Conservation Institute – GCI - USA;
Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage - CACH - Peking) and has taken part in
World Cultural Heritage projects such the
Tomb of Nefertari, Luxor, Egypt, GCI and Egyptian Government 1987; the
Mosaic of Orpheus, Paphos, Ciprus, GCI 1991; the
Baroque Chapel of the Castle of Valtice, Czech Republic, World Monuments Fund – WMF - in 1998;
fresco paintings of Giotto and Cimabue in the Upper Church of Assisi after the 1998 earthquake, Istituto Centrale per il Restauro - ICR 1998-2002). As a specialist for the conservation of paintings, mosaics and stone, he has restored several important monuments, such as the
Roman Amphitheatre Arena of Verona; mural paintings and mosaics of the roman period (Pompei,
Houses of Romolo and Remo, of Triptolemus and of Calpurnius Diogenes; murals, walls and columns of the
Roman Villa of Arianna at Castellammare di Stabia - 2008;
polychrome floor mosaic of the Abduction of Proserpinae, Musei Capitolini, Rome – 1997);
Renaissance frescoes by Guido Reni and Lanfranco (S. Andrea at Celio, Rome), the
Cappella Palatina of Palermo (Arabic-Norman XII century wall mosaics, ceiling wooden panel paintings and carved stones) and important paintings, like the huge
Iconostasis of Cefalonia (Vatican Museums Paintings Gallery) and canvas and wooden panel masterpieces by old masters like
Perugino, Bronzino, Zuccari, Agnolo Gaddi, Tintoretto, Jan Gossart (
Malvagna Triptych, displayed after restoration at the Metropolitan Museum di New York - 2010) and others, editing also several workshop’s report publications. At the moment he is leading, as Senior Cultural Heritage Conservator, the conservation worksite of the Carracci Gallery in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome, as mandatory head of the joint venture ATI FARNESE: Restoration of the wall paintings of the vault and the walls and stucco decoration by Annibale and Agostino Carracci (Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism and Ministère des Affaires Etrangères - Ambassade de France en Italie). Sine 2013 he is between the
